March 30, 2009 6:15 PM My Chalo's Visit
We've eaten here since 1985. People at work wait until they get to Globe to have a Chalo's meal. It's a good place to eat.
You always get chips and salsa. Mine came with mild salsa, a little chiles, definite oregano, lots of tomate. I asked for hot salsa. I understand the hot ingredient in chiles boost endorphins, one of the brain's feel-good chimicals. I felt pretty good when I had the hot. Medium afterburn, milder oregano taste, plus the spice used in the rice giving it a really nice taste. Some day I'll figure that spice out.
I ordered a green chile tostada, spicy. Bring on the southwest! The lettuce was fresh cut, no antioxidant sodium bisulfite taste. The chile verde and beans warmed and filled me up the tortilla shell a thick and crispy foundation. Just enough for me.
I finished with deep-fried ice cream and coffee. Ugh! Deep fried ice cream. How can that be good? A scoop of hard ice cream in the fryer about two seconds rolled in a covering with whatever the restaurant concocts. This seemed mostly of corn flake crumbs, but I'm not sure. Sometimes it's crunchy. This wasn't. It was the first time my waitress ever made it, and she did a great job, surrounding it in its bowl with whipped cream and gridding the lot with chocolate sauce. I've had better and much worse. I forgot to take the picture until it was almost gone.
Cost for the above plus iced tea and tax - $9.00
I'll be back.
Great mexican food and great prices, good service and comfortable atmosphere.
Chalo's Mexican Restaurant: Chalo's is the best place for mexican taco's, bean burro's and more! Deliscious FOOD! Be sure to stop by when driving through town! You can't miss it!!!
