I had Whetstone Construction build me a home in 2007 and I never had a problem with their service. Although if I ever had a concern with my house, where I felt the house needed some attention Whetstone Construction always took care of the problem right away. I would recommend Whetstone Construction to any customer who is looking to build a high quality home.

Do not even consider these folks for even a semi-custom home, much less a custom home. They were to build our home with 10 foot ceilings. They put up 9 foot exterior walls and then they said everything was ok till they tried to put up 10 foot interior walls. We tried to tell them. Their solution was to put a 1 foot pony wall on top of the 9 foot wall. We said no way but they insisted it would pass inspection. We said they needed to get just one structural engineer to sign off and stamp this idea. They could not find even one. They had to take the whole house down and start over. They even tried to charge us for the new lumber and additional labor for their error. This was the first of so many mistakes and lies that we ended up doing the windows, all exterior doors, flooring, cabinets, counter tops, and appliances ourselves. We had to hire others and supervise them ourselves. The builder then tried to have his office manager send us a change order to change the scope of work on the contract so that they were not responsible for any of the work we did, BUT they would still get their 20 percent profit on all the work we did and they refused to warranty. THEY HAD NOT EVEN ORDERED THE STAIRS FOR THE UPPER DECK NOR PASSED FINAL INSPECTION AND THEY WANTED AND DEMANDED THEIR FINAL PAYMENT. We had to hire our own inspector and found out the roof was put on wrong. We pointed out a leak from the upper deck onto the drywall ceiling below. They said it was condensation. The water had formed a pocket filling it up. Finally it rained and we insisted they take down the damaged drywall and sure enough the electrician had drilled a hole right through the upper deck and it was leaking. They removed the drywall and replaced it with plywood and were suppose to cover it like any exterior with stucco. This requires quite a bit more than shooting in with stucco and then painting it. It is now falling off. (yeah who would of guessed) They have yet to finish painting the garage doors and putting up the upper deck railings and the list continues...FOLKS WE STARTED THIS JANUARY 17th 2007 and it is now June 24th 2008. My list of problems is so much more extensive than I have entered here. The project manager Elvis was consistently caught giving us untruthful information and the office manager Jim Huff (also of Shade Tree Consulting) just came out and said and I Quote " Well I guess you caught me in yet another Lie", when we confronted him regarding the fact that he said Cochise county did not allow pellet stoves in the garage, but we could wait til after inspection and they would come out and put one in. He made sure we knew this was an additional cost of course. We found out that yes you could put a pellet stove in and it was a cook stove that was not allowed and it was cheaper to do this during construction, of course. We hired someone else to do this work also. So we found out that they were not trustworthy in any regard. We are still waiting for them to finish and we are turning them into the registrar of contractors office again.
