| About: | With a family name that sounds like an Italian herb, you have to trust these people to know their pastas, parmigianas and their pizzas, too; and you won't be disappointed. This North Tucson, Northern Italian restaurant, the pride of owners William, Bebe, Max and Andrea Bazil, serves up authentic cuisine in a comfortable, casually elegant atmosphere. Besides the standard Italian fare, you'll find some unusual offerings like Sauteed Frog Legs, Chicken Vesuvio and something called Sister Mary Joseph (be sure to check this out!). |

This, bar none, is the best high quality "joint" in Tucson. The only reason they're not rated higher is because they refuse to pay nto the local papers' advertising requests and the latter refuse to review the restaurant. EVERYTHING at this restaurant is superb:
-- The low-key, savvy, and "human" service--everyone in the place feels comfortable;
--The tradition of the "place," the staff, and the broad-spectrumed menu;
--The milk-fed veal which Bill (Bazil)--the owner--buys personally in Wisconsin;
--the standard "sides" which include astonishingy-fresh antipasto, pasta fagioli,and sensually-crisp broccoli on the half-shells;
--the quality of the beef: steaks, prime rib, and the exqusite "rack of ribs."
You will never tire of the menu, the ambience, or the culinary surprises at Bazil's.
I, my ex-wife, my new wife, my new children, and my friends have been eating here for 33 years and Bill and Bebe Bazil (his wife) have never failed to produce a palate=-pleasing-prandial.
THIS is a restaurant that creates memories for you.
P.S. Ask Bill (the owner) to tell you his favorite (off-color) joke when he visits your table.

Italian sub is excellent made with flavor on fresh bread and lots of meat and cheese.
The pizza is something I was not impressed with at all. The crust was like eating a cracker and cut into little squares...weird style. The hours are different now instead of getting a bite for lunch you can only eat dinner after 5pm. Pretty much inconvenient.
Sicilian pizza: We drove across Tucson to find a good pizza, having heard great things about Bazils. We ordered Bazil's Special with red bell pepper, sausage and mushrooms. The flavor was excellent but the cracker thin crust was overcooked on the edges--i.e. dried out. It was sliced in a checkerboard, which is weird and not very practical for a round pizza, reminded me of Sicilian pizza. The menu doesn't mentioned raised New York crust, which would suit their style much better. They don't take credit cards, check or cash only, which is truly strange up in the Catalina foothills. I can't say it was worth the drive from Silverbell but it wasn't bad pizza at all and the price was quite reasonable. If you're in the delivery area, give it a try.
