Do not miss this gem. Numerous themed gardens that provide interest to all. Many educational events throughout the year. Lovely gift shop. A Tucson jewel, not to be missed. Join if you live here, or return to Tucson often.

Regain your sanity and discover deep beauty again!: There really is very little to dislike about Tucson's Botanical Gardens. It is almost as if you stepped thorugh a magical doorway, in a sense. From the start you are startled by how quiet and serene it is, even though it is literally dead center of major roads, streets and city commotion. The atmosphere slows you down enough to breathe and feel as if the regular world is at bay. The staff and docents are very sweet and helpful, and the admission is exceptionally reasonable. The flora and fauna totally relax you and keep your interest. Bring your camera, sightings of the odd occasion are worth it. (Yes, there are many local birds and lizards throughout the gardens, as well as butterflies and hummingbirds.)

Also, I recommend getting a membership, because it will pay off later on, as you return to the gardens throughout the year. Bring a water bottle with you to keep hydrated. There are drinking fountains but there are no year round food facilities. You can bring a picnic with you, and many locals do often bring their bag lunches through out the day. There is a wonderful tree covered patio, and benches scattered throughout the whole gardens for those who like to stop and gaze at the flowers. The whole place is very handicapped accessible and the various sections are just amazingly diverse--every thing from cactus to vegetable gardens, and more! I enjoy the butterfly and hummingbird gardens, and recomend them highly.

There are also many functions, sales and classes available to members and non-members alike through out the year. All of them are worthwhile and very informative. So put on your floppy hat, bring a lunch or picnic and see the best kept jewel of the whole city.
