The Spa:
For the price, I expected to be treated with respect and dignity. Instead I was looked down up, treated with disdain, because I was clearly not one of their regular rich customers. It was obvious that my time there was a big deal for me, that I may never return (and I imagine they immediately thought I would not be tipping as well as their regular customers probably do.). And I was treated like a chore! And they were right, I did not tip well - not because I did not have an adequate amount to give but because the people who worked on me were elitists snobs who made me feel unworthy of their time.
Oh, and the guy who did my foot massage was WAY inappropriate in terms of how far up my legs he was massaging. SICK CREEP. And I, foolishly, was so disgusted with the whole place I just left afterwards instead to talking to management. I regret it now.
*Why give then ANY stars?
Because they had tons of lotions and towels and, well everything, you can imagine just out and available for me to steal out of my anger at them, and the place was BEAUTIFUL.
My family rented three rooms for a weekend getaway. We ranged in age from 2 years old to 87 years old, and everyone had a great time. Great pool/jacuzzi, great rooms, and the staff was unbelievably attentive and friendly. I highly recommend this hotel. Only thing to note, is that it is potentially a long walk to your hotel room, so if you need to be near an elevator, make sure to request it. Other than that things were great! Wish we could have stayed longer!
It depends if you are surrounded by conference parties: Food, service is spectacular. My wife and I went to celebrate our 8th anniversary at the Ventana Room.
As we were going through our main course, conference attendees / business associates were seated next to us even though the restaurant was fairly empty.
The neighboring party consisted of two drunk guys who were obnoxious, loud, cussing, and ruining our atmosphere to the point where we walked out before our final desert course arrived. It totally ruined what otherwise would have been a world-class dining experience.
I suggested to the manager, especially when there is room, separate couples and intimate dinner parties from conference attendees who are on an expense report, could care less for the meal & experience, and are treating the experience as a 'business trip' vs. a romantic setting for a couple.
Besides behavior, dress code wasn't enforced for the drunk business conference attendees. I just think if you are going to have a 5 star restaurant that you need to manage the environment appropriately.
The Ventana Room bent the rules to accomodate conference folks who don't live in AZ, likely will never dine there again at the expense of earning loyalty from a local couple that might have become returning guests (not to mention word of mouth to our local friends and family).
For a $300 dinner, I did not like being surrounded by loud conference jerks getting hammered 2 feet away from our table.
