| About: | The chef is up with the sun to tempt local senses with the sweet scent of freshly baked scones, perhaps the best variety in town. Try the unusual Sage Scone, a flaky sensation for just $2 or a Crunchy Sable, a French pastry that is the rage in Paris. Shake yourself awake with freshly roasted coffee in any size and flavor your heart desires, served inside or on the pleasant tree-shaded patio. Be aware that owner Roger Sliker takes care to use only shade-grown coffee beans, thereby protecting the tropical tree canopy for migratory birds that pass through Southern Arizona during wintertime. |

After moving to Tucson in '97, I spent several years looking for a decent locally owned coffee shop. I found in here, in Raging Sage. The barristas here are relaxed, polite, and know most of the customers -- both by name and drink preference. The coffee and baked goods are all excellent, the clientele wonderful, and the atmosphere low-key. Incessant gabbers should be forewarned, however, they don't allow cell phone use inside, though it's the patrons, rather than the staff, who are the most avid enforcers.
I am astonished that this place has received any high reviews. Being from Portland, OR and a self-acclaimed coffee aficionado, this joint is severely lacking in quality and value. Let's start with the good. I will admit the location is alright and the atmosphere cute with a cozy interior, good lighting, and a quaint little patio outside. However, I believe that the coffee should be a deciding factor and here is where Raging Sage dives off the deep end. The espresso is bitter, overly acidic, and in general not that good. The few times I have gone here, they are out of certain types of milk, and the "baristas" are rude and impolite. To top it all off the prices are ridiculous and a latte will cost you the price of a complete lunch somewhere else. I am forced to continue my search for a decent Tucsonan coffee shop, with good coffee, baristas who know what they are doing and a fairly priced latte.
Best coffee and staff in town. I don't know anyone who works there who isn't polite, cheerful and courteous. And super cute too!
