| About: | This neighborhood gathering place is just behind Charlie's Front Door. Although this is a bar, your senses say you are someplace a little different. The wafting aroma of Mexican food drifts among the smoke and laughter, and plates of tempting, cheese-smothered fare zoom by on their way to an eager, hungry customer. Charlie's carnitas were recently voted Albuquerque's best and they are available as a meal all to themselves or with a bowl of red or green chile. |

My first visit to Charlie's was around 1966 for carnitas and green chili burrito after a night of party. Re-discovered it about 25 years ago and go there once a month on average. No restaurant is perfect but this has been consistently the best New Mexican Restaurant in Albuquerque. Oh, by the way I am a Hispanic, native born, New Mexican who dates back to the Spanish Land Grants (my family, not me though some might argue). Red and Green run through my veins.
A native Albuquerquean, I have been going to Charlie's for over 30 years. They have the consistently best New Mexican food in ABQ, and the service is great. The staff is efficient, friendly, and Jamie always makes us feel at home. This is not to be confused with Mexican food - but is truly authentic NEW Mexican food - the kind I used to get at home...Mmmm Mmmm
My family has been going to Charlie's ever since I can remember. Their margaritas are the best and you simply "have to" try their Sheep Herder. Yummy!!!
