Move on to a better steak: 2/24/07: Food was Average at best, Service was well below average. Price was high for average food, and lousy service. We arrived around 8pm on Saturday night. Wait was only 30 minutes for 2. The bar was available during the wait, we sat at the bar and had great service right away. Once we got our table, our friendly server took our drink order, and promptly returned to take our food order. That was the second to last time we saw her throughout the meal, the last was when she dropped of the check. Runners brought appetizer, salad, bread, and meal. I don't mind this, except the runners, were very bad about taking requests and dropping the ball. We both needed water refills that took 15 minutes to get, and a new round of drinks which we got when the original server dropped off the check. The salad, wasn't great chopped iceberg, with carrots, tomatoes and broccoli, but it was edible. The runners brought ranch dressing, I asked for Italian, my date, blue cheese. My dates salmon was on par with your local applebees, only ran 19.95. My ribeye, was about as good, and ran 18.95 on the specials menu. All in all, NOT worth the price for the quality. If you're looking for a good steak and (limited) seafood, try Paul's Monterrey on Juan Tabo. I have not been disappointed there (although their salad is about the same as pelicans)

Don't bother making reservations..............: Made reservations a few weeks in advance for my Mothers Birthday celebration. The reason reservations were made was so that my Father with bad kness and his two toddler grandsons would not have to wait. When we arrived they told us that the reservation was for 4 when I had made it for 7, upon speaking to the Manager I realized that he had a strikingly similar voice to the person who actually took the reservation over the phone. How you could confuse 7 with 4 I'm not really sure. So we waited.........and waited.........and waited a total of 45 minutes with the dozen or so other people "of color" in the lobby before leaving. All the while other parties were being ushered right in the door and to their seats. The Manager was unsympathetic and absolutely clueless and not once did he nor any of his staff offer an apology for the mix-up or the wait. In fact the entire staff just kept on walking by us never even acknowledging that we had been waiting for so long. The two hostesses' poor attitudes would have been better served cleaning tables or washing dishes-someplace where they did not have interaction with the public as neither one of them had any manners. They were both rude. It was a terrible experience on such a joyous occasion. Needless to say we ended up at the Garduno's on Montgomery and Morris where their staff was the complete opposite of that at Pelican's. They were courteous, friendly, accomodating, and efficient. Considering how horribly the evening started; Garduno's was a very happy ending!!! They treated our family to a great Birthday celebration and we recommend them HIGHLY. Never again will we visit Pelican's, their staff was so lackluster I didn't even bother with the Managers name or the owners either, it won't matter because bad news travels much faster then good news.

Pelicans Wow after reading these reviews I wanted to go back to see what had happened. I was there a little less then two years ago and we absolutley loved it. I thought what happened I love that restaurant so we went again. We were so impressed with the whole experience! We had to waith about 35 minutes on a Friday night but that was not bad at all considering we did not make reservations. The server who greeted us was friendly and up beat took care of us in such a fashion that seemed to me she had been there for years. She was personal and friendly without being over bearing(you know the type). We had the prime rib and the almond crusted halibut; oh my gosh it was so good I was looking for something to be wrong but so far it was just what we remembered. We had dessert (key-lime pie) and coffee and sat around talking and never felt like they were trying to hurry us out I am sorry you had such a bad experience but I think they must of had a bad day (We all have our days) I know it is no excuse;or perhaps they read your review and stepped things up because of it . PELICANS WAS AWESOME!!! You might want to give it another try!

ABSOLUTELY THE BEST!! Cheers to Gardunos but I'd rather eat at Pelican's any day of the week. Their servers have been there for many years for a reason... as well as their managers. The food is marvelous - ambience and service EXCELLENT. Every place is going to make mistakes now and again. Nothing in life is always perfect. But this place strives to do their best and has always been more than accomodating to me, my friends and my family. I would have to say it is one of the best places in Albuquerque to eat. That would also explain the reason they have multitudes of REGULAR customers and maintained a very SUCCSSFUL and steady business over.... about 20 years or so. Highly recommended.
