The Gold Standard for Knitting Stores: Everytime I have a visitor, one of the first places I take them is Taos Sunflower, whether they knit or not. If they don't knit, they will be soon.
Stepping into Taos Sunflower is a feast for the eyes and fingers. Colors explode from every bin. Handspuns beckon you to reach out and touch. A huge selection of books and patterns are within easy reach to peruse and purchase.
As if knitting isn't enough, the owner has a full line of spinning wheels, supplies and fibers to make your decision to spin or to knit even harder.
The owner is dedicated to keeping favorite standbys, and rotating in new yarns to keep things fresh and exciting. The staff feels more like family and you can feel it the minute you walk in. There is a great energy at Taos Sunflower.
The space itself is warm and inviting. High loft ceilings and a local Taos, New Mexico feel make this store not only a business place, but a meeting space. Women randomly gather on Sundays to knit together and plan new projects.
I walked in, myself, over a year ago, a non-knitter, and to date have over 200 projects completed. If Taos Sunflower doesn't pique your knitting interest, nothing will.

My experiences at this shop were nowhere near as inspiring. Staff was preoccupied and not quick to help. A blanket being constructed on a table took precedence over allowing me to lay out skeins to check colors. I was sold needles too small for jumbo yarn I purchased at the same time. I wouldn't have minded if I'd received service with a smile, but employees were more interested in their pet projects. As a customer I felt more like an intruder to a private club. Shopping at La Lana Wools is more satisfactory.
