The atmosphere is pleasant, and the patio is a great place to dine when the weather is warm. Both the food and the margaritas served at Tomasita's Santa Fe Restaurant have won acclaim. Locals will tell you that if you're searching for a great red or green chile, stop your search here. The Chile Rellenos, green chiles stuffed with cheese, dipped in batter and deep-fried, are fabulous. The restaurant does not accept reservations, but you can always enjoy a Margarita at the bar while you wait.
I'm from Texas, so I love Tex-Mex and SW food. The Carne Adovado has to be among the BEST dishes in all of Santa Fe. I didn't believe my brother-in-law's raves until I finally had it. WOW. Not TOO spicy and unbelieveable delicious. On top of that, their famous 'frog' (frozen margaritas) are outstanding and strong enough that you need a driver if you have two! The last time I was at this restaurant was 18 months ago. I went back to see if it was as good as I remembered - NO, it was BETTER!
A favorite of tourists and most locals, good consistent New Mexican food and strong margaritas make this a must stop! No reservations are taken, first come first serve so try the off days! Once seated service is usually very fast. Try the swirlies, half margarita half sangria, yum!
You're right its not "good" its great! Sorry, but a lot of people like to diss Toma's just becuase its touristy. I'm local and yes there are better New Mexican restaurants (like Castro's) but Toma's is always good. They probably served you the Gringa plate, hahaha!
Tomasita's does not live up to the hype, at all. They are over priced, and serve average food, consistently New Mexican, but not "good". I have eaten there with a small party of three and a large party of 21. Each time has been a disappointment in the price and taste and atmosphere. Santa Fe has lots of better choice for the money and effort.
