It is not a Super Sized Grocery Store - nor does it try to be. They have all the basics. Plus a few things one may not expect. This store gets bakery deliveries and I thought the Bran Muffins (with-out raisins - yea) were a pleasent surprise. We also tried the elk-burgers from the frozen food section.

The customer service at this store merits an A+, the staff is great.

If you get a chance look a a can of pringles - at this altitude one has to wonder how they stay sealed.

This is the ONLY place to shop for groceries in Angel Fire. The owners ARE really nice, and they try to stock a good mixture of items. I can find MOST of what I am used to buying only the cost is about 30% higher. Veggies are not bad, fruit is not bad, meat pretty good, dairy OK. Just not a big variety like I am used to, and more expensive. I just paid $4.26 for a gallon of 2% milk. Kind of cluttered, has that "old time" feel, and a gas station (Shamrock) and a BBQ joint as well as a bakery all crammed into the same corner.

I will sum it up by saying this... if you are visiting Angel Fire and need just a few groceries, or live there and need to run to the store for a few items to make supper, then this is the place to go! If you have a crowd and need to really stock up on supplies and larger amts of groceries, then spend the gas money and drive to Taos (35 minutes) and go to Albertsons. They aren't especially cheap either, but has an AWESOME selection of product. If you are driving in from Texas and will be here a week or so with your family....stop in Amarillo at a super-Walmart or Sam's and really stock up to save the most $'s--- if you have a way to haul it. (The closest super Walmart is over an hour away in Espanola or Trinidad, Col.)
BUT--- they are nice people, friendly checkers, and for a smaller amt of items, stay in Angel Fire and hit the Valley Market.

Yes, you are probably correct, but I have been there and managed the market. You have to understand what effects the pricing in that area. I now line off of the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland and I just payed $4.19 for a gallon of milk. That was at Safeway! A store I also managed. I am now a Flight Attendant for Southwest Airlines and am always looking at local pricing. I know that the "folks" in Angel Fire are being, not only, accomodating in pricing and hospitality, but allowing some "locals" a place to shop when fuel prices and weather would not be in your favor to travel to another store. My "Hots off" to Valley Market......

Don't think I was slamming Valley Market in any way. Just trying to be honest, as someone who spends LOTS of money there. The owners are my friends, and I do like the atmosphere and the fact that they are close. And in the dead of winter, it is the ONLY place to shop without taking your life in your hands and driving to Taos. Actually, I have changed my mind since this initial review. When I shop for a LOT of groceries, I now go to SMITH'S in Taos, rather than Albertsons. Just like the store and quality better....oh yeah, and prices! Plus you get a discount for gas there, too.
