Service and buffet were disappointing. We made reservations for Sunday brunch for August 30th. The host staff was gracious and warm, but seated us back in a corner. Our server never introduced herself, just breezed by and looked at our glasses a couple of times, then disappeared. We had to ask a bus person to send her with our 2nd glass of champagne. It took about 20 minutes to get a glass of tea. No one monitors the buffet, so chaffing lids are left up and much of the food is cold or completely gone. Replenishment is spotty at best. The food is ok, but it is not an "elaborate" brunch as stated on their website. The service is not "impeccable." I sent a comment to management using the hotel's website, but they weren't interested enough in our disappointment to respond. Don't get your hopes up.
I used to live in Piney Woods, right down from Cloudcroft and had always heard about The Lodge-on one of my trips back, my fiance and I stayed there and dined at the Rebecca's the first evening. The dining room is elegant, the service is superb, but the prices are little steep. Our server was a pro, but she and the other attending server did seem to err on being over-attentive (I say this as a former waitress, in both fine and relaxed dining). This error is nearly always a result of management's overly zealous desire to appease the customer. I may be in the miniority here, but I'm a pretty minimalist-type customer and don't need my water glass refilled everytime I take a sip. Overall, a nice establishment with great service, a great view, but a little too pricy and little over-bearing.
