I am originally from Artesia and have always loved La Fonda. My husband and I came into town for our class reunion in July 2009 and met up with friends and family for dinner. All went well until one of my friends realized that her burrito had french fries in it instead of chopped up potatoes. When we asked the waitress if we could speak to a manager she informed the "manager" of our problem and told us that she would be out shortly. After a few minutes (Perkins daughter...can't remember her name) came out and asked what the problem was...We then told her that there were french fries in the burrito. She then told us that the kitchen staff was too lazy to chop up the french fries and that they are ghetto like that. This is coming from the owners daughter AND the "HEAD CHEF". Not such a good impression!!! I have been dining at La Fonda for years and my family is very well known there also. I'm sure if your mother would have been there that night you might have acted in a more professional manner.
Everything was wonderful except for the spicy ketchup "salsa" they serve with their chips.
I have eaten there quiet often, and have never had a problem with the service or the food. It has a high quality, the servers are always kind and they are more than willing to assist your every whim. I'm sorry if u don't think that the food there is "mexican enough" for you, but it tastes great, and comes out hot and ready. If you don't enjoy the food, then go to mexico, I'm sure their sanitary ways of cooking will fulfill your need for "mexican food." Otherwise, I fully recommend this great restaraunt, for you and your family!! I'll be going there again next time I pass through!
