Company Information: This spot located in Fremont Street, downtown was recently added to the list of historical places in Nevada, as well it should. It was the first hotel (still in existence) to be built in Las Vegas, and it is still going strong. In the 1950s a "modern" facade was added, which remained until the inauguration of the Fremont Street Experience. Then the hotel was restored to its original charming appearance (circa 1930s), replete with flower boxes at the windows. A piano bar is situated next to the Shrimp Cocktail Deli, which still serves up 99-cent shrimp cocktails. Check out the baby grand piano on the basement level, and don't miss the Freemont Street Experience light show, just out the front door.

Been going to the Bay City Diner for 2 years for the prime rib and rotiserie chicken specials which were very good, but neither are on the menu anymore. Tried the prime rib. Looked and tasted like some sort of stew meat. Got three drinks, and the waitress leaves 2 straws. Was told new mgr. took over. So sad, and goodbye. Never again.
Staying at the Golden Gate is like driving a classic car--you get the cool old-time feel but the technology is 50-years old. If you try to compare the Golden Gate to modern hotel rooms, you're going to be disappointed and should stay someplace else.
But if you want to embrace the antique decor and personable staff of old Vegas, you're in for a real treat.
We were impressed with how happy and enthusastic everyone on staff was. We didn't meet anyone at the Golden Gate who wasn't polite and cheery.
The bathrooms are decorated in the very height of 1930s fashion--green pastel and black tile. The furniture was a little old and worn, but the bed was comfortable--not bad for a 100-year-old hotel.
I prefer the Golden Gate to any modern corporate-run hotel. It's an absolutely great place to stay if you're on a budget, too.
I read reviews on Yahoo! that the slots at the Golden Gate were loose, but I didn't see anyone hitting any noticeable jackpots during my time in their casino. I'll gamble next time where the slots are looser.
My ONLY complaint with the Golden Gate is with all the casinos--too much cigarette smoke! I urge the Golden Gate to take the lead and make their hotel 100% smoke-free; it'll be such a nicer experience.
A Conveniently located affordable place to stay: We are planning our next trip to LV to attend a trade show. The glitz and high prices of todays LV hotels do not attract us and we find ourselves returning to the Golden Gate. A hotel with a super location and great breakfasts gets our vote and money every time! We'd rather spend those dollars at a wonderful show!
