My father passed away and Hospice suggested Desert Memorial to my mother. (That's how she got involved with this horrible place) My mother went down there on a Saturday and set everything up with these people. (Or so she thought)

Tuesday was the Funeral we had the place from 2-5pm for viewing and services. They didn't open the door for viewing until 2:45pm so that made everything run behind. At 5pm the lady was in there telling my mother that everyone needed to leave and she was walking around telling everyone to get out. Next she is turning off the lights on us to leave!

Anyway, my mother gets a phone call on the following Thursday from this funeral home telling her that they will mail her papers that they forgot to have her sign to get my father cremated. What they hell! They had my father's body just sitting there in Limbo all this time after the funeral home for over a week after the Funeral. They had my mother in tears. We went down to the Funeral home and signed the papers that day so they could cremate my father right away.

At this point in time they told my mother they would do it that Monday. We also asked for the American Flag that was on his coffin during the viewing since he was a Vet. She told us at that time they used it for someone else family and gave it to them!!! It's was OUR Flag!

She told us she would get us a new flag and call us when our father’s remains were ready to be picked up. Well, almost 1 week later never heard anything. Mother called them today (Sunday) and asked they said Yes come get it. We went down to get his remains and they handed over just the remains. No Flag, No Vest that we requested back from his viewing, No Death Certificate. Mom came out to the car crying without all theses things. They said they had no idea where it all was. They told her to come back next week and they will see if they can find the stuff.

Needless to say in a nutshell this place is the worst!!

I would not wish this place on anyone. Since the time of my father's death they have been the worst people to deal with. It started with them sending me all over to fax forms to have my father released to them, in which they still did not do their job because my father was sent to the wrong funeral home.

From fees for everything (I was not allowed to see my father unless I paid a fee), to giving us 55 minutes of chapel use before turning out lights with people in the building, to not sealing my fathers remains properly causing them to spill onto me, to me having to threaten suit to get my father's death certificate (which is not accurate). The owner of the conpany called me a liar when I told him about my fathers remains, nevermind the fact that anytime I have dealt with these people, I have had a witness with me and I also had a house full of people when I opened the box my fathers remains were shipped in.

They also charged me $75 to have my fathers remains to me when the package clearly showed the postage to be $25.09. They charged $75 for a body pouch that is the equivilant to a clear plastic trash bag.

If you want your loved one handled with care and respect...DO NOT USE THIS FUNERAL HOME! check them out on the BBB. I am not the only one that has had issues. I am filing a formal complaint as well.

With regard to the above reviews, we at Desert Memorial regret when anyone feels that they were mistreated. I'd like to apologize to the people that wrote them for any perceived offenses. However, the fees that are mentioned are explained in great detail before any services are rendered and we give out our prices over the phone so that there are no surprises when the family comes into our office. We treat our families with respect and dignity but, unfortunately, you cannot please every single person that you deal with. We handle roughly 1500+ cases per year and we have 2 complaints. We come highly regarded by the hospices in Las Vegas/Pahrump/Mesquite/Laughlin and we work very closely with the County Coroner's office as one of the mortuaries they use on their weekly rotation. I hope anyone who reads this never has a use for our services, but, if the time should come and you should seek a low-cost alternative to expensive funeral services, I hope we are the facility you choose. Thank you. Chris Grant Desert Memorial Cremation & Burial

I have done my homework and know for a FACT that you have more than 2 complaints. You and I have spoke on the phone Chris and I am certain you know who I am. My complaints against you are not done by any means. If you think that by coming on an internet forum talking baout "Low cost" is going to help, you are sadly mistaken. You know all to well what my complaints are and it seems as though the other poster had a very similar experience. All funeral homes work on rotation with the coroner's office, they does not mean they endorse nor approve of your tactics. I was NOT treated with diginity by any means, and have numerous people that witnessed how I was treated. You and your establishment make me absolutely sick.

Again, I do not remember the case in question. I may very well have talked to you and, if that happened, I'm sure you got the correct information. As far as rotation, there are only 7 mortuaries in all of Clark County that are on the rotation with the Coroner's office and we are one of them. While thsat doesn't mean that they endorse us, it does mean that we meet their standars of operating procedures. We handled over 1700 cases in 2008 and, according to the State Funeral Board we "only" had 3 complaints. I wish it had been zero, but you just can't please everyone no matter how hard you try. I personally was recognized in 2008 by the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce for my assistance with one family in particular. Once again, I apologize for any perceived offenses, but facts are facts.
