I had been wanting to play this golf course for a long time. I planned a 4 day trip to Mesquite which included Falcon Ridge, The Canyons Course at the Oasis, The Palmer Course at the Oasis, and I saved the crown jewel, Wolf Creek Golf Club, for last. At least that is what I thought. When I got to the first tee the starter gave a little speach about the course that included a 90 degree cart rule with the exception of the first hole and the par 3's. There was at least 5 other holes roped off at the cart path which made for some long walks up and down hills to your ball with a handful of clubs. After about 4 holes I was pretty frustrated with the tee boxes. Finding a flat spot was a real challenge. For the rates this place charges they should rival greens at some courses. Hot even close. The sand was incosistent also as they were in the process of changing from a brown course type of sand to a white power type of sand. Good luck with this until they get them all changed over. Another note, some sand bunkers were raked and maintained very well and others looked and played like they had not been touched in weeks. Just very inconsistant. When I played the other courses earlier in the week some of the people I played with had played it and said to definitely bring a camera along. The views were awesome. There was a big problem with some of the views though. The holes that had creeks and waterfalls running through them were completely dry. With the exception of the 9th which had the water running. I guess since this hole can be seen from the club house. The price tag to play this course does not justify these poor conditions. When I got finished with my round I approached an attendant at the pro shop and mentioned these things and was told that no one else had complained and that the water ways being dry was due to cutting costs. I asked to speak to the manager and was greeted by him very politely and asked what the concerns were. After talking to him about the tee boxes, sand , and water ways. He just said that he would not disagree with the condition of the tee boxes, that they were changing out the sand, and that they had a pump out that controlled the water in the water ways. Well as for the pump, either he or one of his assistants had not told the truth about that. As for the rest of the course it was in great condition, especially for a course built in such a harsh enviornment. The fairways and greens were in very good condition. My overall experience was that it was not a good value for the price.
This is an interesting golf course! I had played desert golf courses before but not one with such elevation changes. There is some beautiful scenery in that area, some terrific golf holes, and most were practical. There were a few holes with blind shots that will take you completely by surprise; despite a fairly accurate course yardage booklet they give you in the proshop. The number of golf balls you will see laying in the deep ravines and on the tops of the peaks give you a good indication of where not to shoot. It was fun course, but difficult playing it for the first time. My buddy and I played it in late July and it was about 110 degrees of dry heat, but there was plenty of water. The staff was nice, we had a really fun time playing golf, and afterwards we had a pretty good meal in the club cafe. Also, I lost a head cover during the round and went back to the course several hours later, hoping that it had been turned in - It was there and was cheerfully returned, which was most appreciated. It's a good course and has good folks running it.
Played in Mesquite July 19 thru 24. Played a lot of good courses but none compared to Wolf Creek. Great course, but take water with you, no cart girls, but there are numerous places to refill your water bottle. Could not find a weed anywhere in the fairways or first cut of ruff. MUST PLAY IF YOU ARE IN MESQUITE
