I just got back from an endoscopy and colonoscopy done by Dr. Shaposhnikov. During my first visit, I thought that he was ok, although his bedside manner could use some improvement. Anyway, if you want to go to a GI doctor that overbooks his patients, he's your guy. He booked 22 patients this morning for endoscopies and/or colonscopies at Valley Hospital. He makes his colonoscopy patients fast for 2 days, not one. Anyway, his office called me yesterday saying that I should arrive at 8 or 8:30 a.m. instead of 7 a.m., as planned. I asked why and she basically told me he had several patients booked for procedures that morning and it was on a first come, first serve basis.
I decided instead to get to the hospital early. I got there at 6:15 a.m. this morning and checked in. I was very fortunate, because I was the 6th patient to arrive and got the last bed. The other patients scheduled at the same time had to wait for hours. The people ahead of me had gotten to the hospital as early as 5 a.m. It was ridiculous. I waited from for 6 hours to get out of the hospital. They didn't even do my procedure until 10:40 a.m., and I was the 6th patient! I left the hospital at 12:30 noon. Throughout my time waiting in the hospital bed and up until I left, people would peek into the room and ask how long it was going to be, because they had been waiting since 7 a.m. I was so angry. I didn't say anything. I have only written one other review on a bad doctor before, and I've seen quite a few bad ones in my time.
Anyway, I overheard the nurses talking about how the people in the waiting room were really angry at how long it was taking, and I couldn't blame them one bit. This doctor may be competent at what he does, but he is insensitive to the needs of his patients. One of the nurses said that there was a 90-year-old woman booked for a colonoscopy, and I keep thinking about her and wondering how the poor lady is/was doing after having to wait so long.
In addition, when I called the other day to book my followup appointment in advance, I couldn't get in until Sept. 8, because the receptionist told me he had 53 patients booked for the afternoon and I would have to wait a long time. 53!!! Is is just me or does someone seem pretty greedy? I wouldn't waste your valuable time and money on this doctor.
My advise is with any doctor is to find out, if possible, how many patients they have booked for your time frame. If they have a lot of patients booked, you might want to consider it a big red flag!
