My child looooves this school. The curriculum is very hard, but she does keep up. I'm impressed by what she has accomplished in her 1st grade and she is doing well in 2nd grade now. No matter what, she doesn't want to go anywhere else. Great school, great teachers, great staff!
We have had 2 children go through Challenger School and have been extremely pleased with the education. One child has a learning disorder yet did very well in the structured atmosphere. The other moved on and tested into another extremely competitive scchool in town for Middle school.
Yes, there is a lot of parent involvement with the work. What child doesn't need guidance? I believe in helping my children achieve independence. I believe that when you set the bar high the children will respond accordingly. All children are different and some require more hand holding than others. Some schools just aren't the right fit for child and parent.
If you don't want to invest the money and time into your children or if your children just are not capable of the work load then leave it up to our below standard public schools. Challenger is terrific.
Recently, I had the opportunity to visit my daughters 2nd grade class at Challenger. The atmoshere at the classroom was not cheerful as I believe it should be for 2nd grade students. In fact, I found the classroom enviroment to be cold and unfriendly. Furthermore, I expected the teacher of my eight year old to be loving and caring toward her and her classmates. Unfortunately, I was sadly disappointed with the miltary boot camp instruction style and mentality that was exhibited. Drop down and give me 50 push ups mister! This is what we get for a grand a month from Challenger? Oh I forgot it's for the home work which they get plenty!
