THIS IS THE FOLLOW UP TO MY PREVIOUS REVIEW.
I CALLED THE OWNER + EXPLAINED MY DIS SATISFACTION. HE FINALLY AGREED TO REFUND $40.00 OF THE $80.00 HE CHARGED ME.
I WENT DOWN TO THE STORE TO GET THE REFUND WITH NO INTENTION OF RE HASHING MY NOT BEING HAPPY WITH THE SERVICE PROVIDED.
THE OWNER WAS NOT PRESENT HOWEVER HIS EMPLOYEE STEVE WAS. STEVE WANTED TO MAKE EXCUSES BUT I ONLY CAME TO GET MY REFUND, AND POLITELY LEFT THINGS AS THEY WERE.
IN RETROSPECT, I SEE THINGS THIS WAY:
THEY ARE NICE ENOUGH GUYS BUT WETHER BEING DISHONEST WITH ME OR JUST BEING PLAIN DOWNRIGHT INCOMPETENT - OR BOTH, IT REALLY DOESN'T MATTER - MY WORKSTATION WAS DOWN FOR FOUR WEEKS IN THEIR SHOP. IT TOOK ME LESS THAN 5 MINUTES TO DO THE INTERNET RESEARCH, ORDER THE POWER SUPPLY AND 20 MINUTES TO INSTALL IT. MY APPLE CINEMA DISPLAY WAS NOT BURNT UP AS I WAS TOLD.
IT IS AS IT IS, SO YOU WILL HAVE TO MAKE YOUR OWN DECISIONS AS TO WETHER YOU WANT TO DO BUSINESS WITH THESE GUYS OR NOT.
BE CAREFUL OF THESE GUYS, BE CAREFUL OF THESE GUYS, BE CAREFUL OF THESE GUYS!!! - I HAVE USED THEM IN THE PAST, JUST PURCHASING X-TRA'S FOR MY MAC'S. SOMETIMES I INSTALLED THEM MYSELF, OTHER TIMES I HAD THEM DO THE INSTALLS. I KNOW MY WAY AROUND MAC'S PRETTY GOOD AND I THOUGHT OF THEM AS A BIT ODD, TECNO GEEK KINDA GUYS, ALWAYS TRYING TO "IMPRESS" WITH A BUNCH OF MUMBO-JUMBO/B.S., ETC. IT SEEMS TO BE THEIR M.O. (METHOD OF OPERATION) AND I HAVE WITNESSED IT MANY TIMES WHEN I HAVE BEEN IN THEIR STORE, BOTH WITH MYSELF AS WELL AS WITH OTHER CUSTOMERS.
I HAVE A N.L.E. EDIT STUDIO AT HOME WITH 4 MAC WORKSTATIONS. MY MAIN G4 DUAL 500 WORKSTATION WENT DOWN SO I TOOK IT TO THEM TO DIAGNOSE. I ALREADY SUSPECTED THE POWER SUPPLY WAS BAD. THEY DIAGNOSED AND COMFIRMED THIS AND ALSO TOLD ME MY APPLE CINEMA DISPLAY WAS ALSO BURNED UP AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS WHERE THE PROBLEM STARTED. THEY TOLD ME THAT NEW POWER SUPPLIES FOR MY G4 WERE UNAVAILABLE AND THAT USED ONES WERE VERY EXPENSIVE. THEY WANTED TO SELL ME ANOTHER COMPUTER, NEW OR USED. I TOLD THEM I DIDNT WANT ANOTHER COMPUTER, JUST REPLACE THE POWER SUPPLY WITH A USED ONE AND I HAD AN EXTRA DISPLAY THAT I COULD USE. AFTER THE 3RD WEEK OF GOING BACK AND FORTH WITH THEM TELLING ME THEY HAD GOTTEN BAD USED POWER SUPPLYS, AND EACH TIME THEY ARE TRYING TO SELL ME ANOTHER COMPUTER, I DECIDED TO DO THE RESEARCH MYSELF. WITHIN LESS THAN 5 MINUTES I FOUND ON THE NET BOTH NEW AND USED POWER SUPPLIES. I CALLED LARRY PREDIGO, THE OWNER AND TALKED WITH HIM. I FORWARDED TO HIM THE LINK TO THE POWER SUPPLIES AND GAVE HIM AUTHORIZATION TO PURCHASE A USED ONE, APPLY A FAIR MARKUP, AND FIX MY COMPUTER. I AM A 24 YEAR BUSINESS OWNER AND THIS WAS A PROFESSIONAL COURTESY (I DON'T BRING MY EGGS + BACON TO THE RESTURANT TO HAVE THEM COOK MY BREAKFAST, IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!)I CALLED THEM AGAIN ON FRIDAY OF WEEK 4 AND GOT THE SAME OLD B.S. AND AGAIN THEY TRIED TO SELL ME ANOTHER COMPUTER. THE FOLLOWING MONDAY I WENT DOWN TO THEIR STORE UNANNOUNCED AND IN A VERY PROFESSIONAL AND POLITE WAY, PAID THEIR $80.00 FEE, PICKED UP MY UNIT, TOOK IT HOME, ORDERED THE USED POWER SUPPLY AND INSTALLED IT MYSELF IN 20 MINUTES. I WAS JUST GETTING READY TO DISPOSE OF THE APPLE CINEMA DISPLAY WHEN THE THOUGHT CAME TO MIND THAT I SHOULD AT LEAST MAKE SURE THAT IT WAS BURN UP AS THEY HAD TOLD ME. I HOOKED IT UP TO THE G4 AND GUESS WHAT - IT WORKED FINE. NOW I AM REALLY PISSED.
THESE GUYS SAW AN OPPORTUNITY TO SELL ME ANOTHER COMPUTER BY LYING TO ME, THEN THEY WOULD TAKE MY G4, WHICH IS A VERY, VERY HIGH END VIDEO/AUDIO WORKSTATION AND MORE THAN LIKELY SELL IT FOR A GOOD PROFIT TO SOMEONE ELSE - PROBABLY BY THE SAME METHOD OF B.S. THAT THEY ATTEMPTED TO USE ON ME.
MY NEXT STEP AFTER WRITING THIS REVIEW WILL BE TO GO DOWN TO THEIR STORE AND AGAIN PROFESSIONALLY AND POLITELY ATTEMPT TO GET $40.00 OF THE $80.00 FEE THEY CHARGED ME. (THEIR DIAGNOSTIC FEE IS $40.00) IN REALITY, THEY SHOULD REFUND THE WHOLE $80.00, BUT I WILL SETTLE FOR THE $40.00. SHOULD THEY NOT DO THE RIGHT THING, THEN I WILL UTILIZE EVERY AVENUE AVAILABLE TO PROFESSIONALLY BRING THE REGULATORY POWERS TO BEAR ON THEM FOR SHADY BUSINESS PRACTICES.
I WILL ADD ANOTHER REVIEW TO LET YOU KNOW THE OUTCOME OF MY MEETING WITH THEM.

I would like to reply to Skiingbumps. First, the G4 Powermac was 9 years old. Nine (9) years in computer age is like 60 years in human terms. Apple did not have a powersupply to purchase. I was reluctant to try to find a powersupply on the internet as I felt they would be pulls or refurbed or dead. At skiingbumps insistance, I found a powersupply on eBay and had it shipped fedex for a cost of about $95. (The guy waited 4 days to ship it to me fedex). Sorry, but it turned out to be dead too. I had to haggle with the guy I got it from for a week before he would take it back and try to find me another one. Yes, skiingbumps did give me links to other sites claiming to have the powersupplies but when I contacted them personally I was told the cost would be over $250 -$275. At this time I did suggest to try to find a whole working Dual 500 G4 tower instead of just the powersupply to use a backup machine, parts or whatever. As far as the display is concerned. We took his hard drives out of his G4 and put them into our shop G4 to make sure they booted; which they did ok. We then took his video card out of his G4 and put it in our G4 to test his 17" CRT display with ADC connector and could not get any sign of life. I am glad the CRT did work, but from our test we got nothing - no video. Bottom line. Be very careful working on 9 year old Apple computers that Apple no longer supports. There will be no next time, I will just walk away from another job like this one. It is just not worth it. I think I worked hard and honestly telling Skiingbumps the pitfalls of this repair along the way. I am out $95 and hours of time on this job; no sweat. But, to be called dishonest? No I don't think so. I did not sugar coat anything about this job from the beginning and now to be called dishonest is just not right.
