Cute little restaurant, great for people watching. Food on the other hand, wasn't nearly as good. I had the duck confit and I swear it could have been chicken. I know how duck tastes, and it didn't taste like duck. The salads, it's basically store bought mixed lettuce throw on a place with store bought dressing, nothing special. Can't really say much good stuff about this place. Oh yeah, service is kinda slow too.
People watching at it's finest!: My owners took another couple to this restaurant and everyone seemed to enjoy what they were eating -- I could tell because they gave me darn little of it! Salads and entrees were the call this day. I was welcome on the patio, and there was lots of foot traffic for me to take interest in inbetween the bits I got.
Dog Friendly Angelique Cafe!: Just got a dog from the SPCA who suffers from a bit of separation anxiety, so until we can get him over it, we have to take him pretty much everywhere. My in-laws come up from San Diego for the day to see the new pooch (and wish their boy a happy birthday) -- and we've already taken them to Pete's. What to do? We went to Angelique, where the patio is pooch-friendly!
My mother-in-law is wonderful for ordering a salad and then adding the "could you's" -- could you put the dressing on the side, could I substitute x for y, you know -- completely changing just about everything. The waiter patiently listened to what sort of salad she was after, told her the types of stuff he could put on it, and brought her one that made her happy. Hubby got the greek salad -- it wasn't bad and looked pretty big. I happily ate the unpitted black olives! I ordered the leg of lamb -- and it was terriffic. I like their fries -- very thin and crispy. I forget what pop had -- I think it might have been the steak with peppercorns -- but it was good because it disappeared.
If I had a complaint it was that the service was a bit slow -- but they were busy on this particular Sunday, and I'm not sure if they weren't expecting it, or if we happened to catch them on a day someone called in sick and they were just dealing with it.
I made a trip indoors to the bathroom and the interior is VERY nice. Colorful and cozy without being cramped -- it almost made me sorry we had to stay on the patio (in the warm California sunshine). They have an upstairs patio that ought to be great at Sunset (but is off-limits to pets).
We'll be going back again.....
