| About: | This is one of the last remaining old L.A. eateries in downtown. In years gone by, Angeleno families would make a trip here for dinner as a special Sunday outing. If you are looking for a square meal while making the rounds of downtown points of interest, it will not disappoint you. Located right in the heart of Broadway, the clientele is mostly Latino. During the week it is primarily shoppers and workers from the nearby stores, but there are more families on weekends. The decor is cornball tropical island complete with faux streams and brooks. If you were taken here as a child, there were memorable choices, such as the Jell-O with whipped cream topping or the pineapple upside down cake. Heavier fare includes the standard mashed potatoes and gravy, roast beef, fish, or chicken. Of course this is just a sampling of the many dishes offered, past and present, at this venerable dining spot. |

here is all i can say about cliftons and that its cafeteria food to a whole homemade level, their poast beef is so juicy and their mash potatoes are so fluffy and creamy and then you can have a turkey dinner any day of the week , and pie as far as your eyes can see, omg people desert from gello to yummy pie its a place that has memories in its walls and you will make memories there too bring your kids here and share the history of Los Angeles while you eat in this historic downtown la cafeteria that has fed the masses and will continue to do so for many many years to come , I personally recommend it and I do hope you enjoy your visit and come back for more and more !take it all in !!
We visited Cliftons just recently when on holiday from Australia. The atmosphere was very quirky and interesting. We really enjoyed our experience there. The manager was more than happy to let us wander around upstairs where there was a lot of interesting reading and a collection of curios from the past. The food was cheap and OK. We were disappointed that our schedule didn't allow us to return. Will certainly recommend to others seeking a different dining experience. (Take your camera).
one word: GROSS!!!
they have big gigantic rats there ugh! and they under pay and over work their employees. they send them to work down in the cellar with hot tempatures!!! i feel sorry for everyone that works there.
they use the same food for days! because they are soo cheap!
i wonder how they pass inspections?
I WILL NEVER GO OR RECOMMEND CLIFTON'S TO ANYONE AGAIN
