Easily the best sushi restaurant in West LA...I've been going once a week for almost nine years because I love the food, the atmosphere (during the baseball season, Isshin doubles as a haven for Red Sox fanatics -- although there is one Yankees banner posted to keep the one regular from New York happy), and, perhaps most importantly, the staff. Owner Risa and her two sisters treat their customers like family, and sushi master Yama-san makes quite possibly the best rolls in Southern California. Isshin's dedicated fan base speaks for itself; the same people are always at the sushi bar, and it is very easy to make friends over a serving of Spanish mackerel.
Good Night in Westwood: I went here after hearing bad reviews about the other sushi restaurants in Westwood. Isshin offers a variety of seafood, so don't just order the tuna or salmon; go wild, try the squid or something. You can get smaller than average rolls (6 pieces) for under 5 bucks, and the Isshin specials are an even better deal. I ordered the Teriyaki chicken and tempura special with scallop rolls. They also give you a salad and miso soup with the specials, which is traditional of sushi houses.
As for the environment, it can be a little dim, but it's probably intended for effect. Overall, I had a pleasant evening and I didn't have a void in my wallet or anything. On a side note, if you want to bring a group, try to keep it under 10 people.
Tasty Sushi!: Isshin is the best sushi house in Westwood! Great food, great service and great value too...check it out!
