| About: | Echo is a great spot for new grooves and you would find the hipster crowd from the East side of Los Angeles hanging out at this joint. Located in a former Latin disco called Nayarit, this place is about fresh sounds. Every DJ-oriented night is different, and offers an opportunity to witness groundbreaking styles and music. The vibrant vibe creates an abstract ambience where anything can, and does happen on the stage and the dance floor. In short, expect the unexpected! |

Very Indie, Not Hip, Fun times in Echo Park: A decent place for indie and local acts. Its very raw and a little dingy -- and this is probably a good thing as it keeps trendy Hollywood scensesters away for the most part. You'll get a very young group here sometimes due to the lesser acts being just plain cheaper. The Echo Plex below The Echo is even more raw, but works for indie rock shows. I just saw Of Montreal there and had a great time. The sound is so-so, but it's not meant to host the LA Philharmonic... I need to check out some of the club nights....
The Echo is pretty cool: It has a an open bar which caught my eye as soon as I went in. Places to sit and kickback and some tables where you can eat. The restrooms are roomy and clean. Overall I had a good experience. Cant wait to go back.
Although the outside looks all dead, they really have to work with putting up a sign or something. It was very hard to find.
Best Place To See New Bands: Tiny, neighborhood bar in Echo Park hosts the best up and coming local talent and some of the best out of towners. If you have a taste for cutting edge, punk, or indie music, then the Echo is your place.
