Hands down best Mexican Restaurant on the planet. The roja salsa has a sweet and medium bite to it but not overpowering, the chips are always fresh and a bit thicker than most places. I tried the chicken tamales and they were full of flavor and not too filling as an appetizer. However the best is the Carne Asada Burrito. The steak is nice and tender, the green Mole sauce with it is great, the guacamole is excellent, and the refried beans and rice have a great flavor which help compliment the entire dish. The burrito is a good size as well, and every time I go into Mexico City, I can't pick anything else! I always bring my out of town guests to Mexico City to show them what a real LA Mexican restaurant is like and they are always leaving in awe, realizing they just can't get Mexican like that anywhere else. I have lived in LA for about a year and half and have been to Mexico City at least 50-75 times. Service is always friendly but tend to be overworked so give them an extra minute or too, trust me it will be worth it.
My favorite Mexican restaurant in L.A. The salsa is to die for and their prices are very reasonable.
best in la: out of all the mexican restaurants in the greater los angeles area, mexico city is, by far, head and shoulders above the rest...their overall menu is superb, offering a great variety of food, from ceviche and mahi mahi to tamales and ropa vieja (my personal favorite)...their mole is also outstanding...thick and rich and...wow...tremendous flavor...mexico city also serves fresh, hot chips that are unsalted and offer verde, rojo and habanero salsas...the service is generally very good as the current wait staff has been there for a while now...the drinks are good and potent, however, a little pricy for a house margarita (8.50)...great clean, leveled atmosphere with comfortable booths...a very eclectic mix of clientele...i try to go to this place at least once a month and have been doing so for nearly 8 years since they relocated and everytime it has been above average to excellent...highly recomemded...a definate bright spot in the dim world of mexican eateries in la....
