Tawdry place. Time to close and begin cleaning the floors. Food presents badly. Not a French establishment by American standards and certainly not by French. Rooms are without charm. Bar is neighborhood hang and has no elan.
The old Basque family that gave rise to the place has left the building ...
C'est pas Francais, mon vieux!
Taix has gone downhill. We've been going to Taix for the last 8 years. We had a horrible experience on New Years Eve 07. We expect our meals to be prepared when ordered, not taken out of warming trays and put on a plate. Pretty presentation does nothing to mask over cooked and poorly seasoned food. Several items on the menu were not available. The desserts weren't edible ... dry chocolate mousse cake (how is mousse dry?) or soggy cherries jubilee (it had been sitting for a long time). Just awful. Our server disappeared for 30 minutes and no one asked how our meal was ... perhaphs they knew better. We have started to frequent other restaurants. There's no excuse for poor quality at any price. 2 stars is generous. I doubt that we'll be back.
I have eaten here dozens of times since the '70s and have never had a bad experience. The staff is ever friendly and the food has never disappointed. The wine is very reasonable by the bottle or the glass. I like the fact that my in-laws have dined there since the '40s. A great treat in LA.
