| About: | Since 1928, this L.A. standby has been offering 24-hour casual dining in the heart of the Fairfax district. You'll find the food here authentic and the people-watching amazing. Everyone from The Wallflowers to K.D. Lang and Madonna has stopped in to eat here. Favorites include the in-house pickled corned beef pastrami, the hot corned beef, the tender beef brisket and the many offerings from the in-house bakery. Next door is the Kibitz Room, where there's live music most nights. A full bar and decent wines work well with the food. |

Outstanding authentic food. I'm pretty sure it's Jewish, matzo ball soup would make it that, I'm guessing, which by the way is delish. Massive menu with lots of different things. The mile high sandwiches are so big, there's now way to bite it like a normal sandwich, you gotta attack from the side. Pickles are nice and crisp, bread and pastries fantastic, breakfasts great, the list goes on. The only thing I didn't like was once I ordered a bagel with smoked salmon, not knowing it would be smoked and still raw, my own fault due to ignorance. Finding a place to park can be a pain, now the lot caddy corner across the street to the north has meters. Steet parking, forget it. Valet is usually full. They got it all, a deli counter to order stuff to go, a bakery counter for bread and sweets, and a restaurant.
I visited Canter's twice here in L.A. and five times at the Treasure Island in Las Vegas. The portions were more than I could handle; the price was right; and most importantly the food was great. That's why I keep going there. I wish their location in L.A. is closer to my home (I live in Palmdale). Always been a good experience...
yum... service is great!! love them over there... sanwiches are yum... their mustard is good... and i love mustard!
