| About: | File this one under 'guilty pleasures'. It sounds strange to combine chicken and waffles on the same plate, but you've got to try it. It's out of this world good. Sure, it's high in cholesterol but sometimes you just have to live. This down-home Southern stop also offers grits and all the soul-food accoutrements, including black-eyed peas, all kinds of greens and more. Thank heaven for wet-naps. The manager says "Come once and you'll be back for more." |

Ok, everyone talked about this place like it had the best food ever. Well, I am here to tell you they don't. The chicken "sausage" was more like chicken "bricks" that could break any window it comes into contact with. The waffles were rather thin and not all that. For 4 of us, it came to $60 for breakfast....which I think is about $58 too much. The service was ok, but really, the food was far from. I asked for my eggs to be scrambled "well" and get them..runny. The waitress said that they were done "well". What is regular....a raw egg? Yuck!
I really don't know what all the fuss is.
I went there for the first time hung over and thought maybe that was the reason I wasn't feeling it. But after going a second time my first impression of Roscoes remains the same whats the big deal small portions and the cost a little too much.
I recently visited the Snoop Dogg famed Roscoe's Hose of Chicken "N" Waffles on Gower Street and left utterly disappointed. I ordered the half chicken (white meat) and waffles and to my surprise both chicken and waffles failed to live up to the hype. First off my chicken was burnt, when brought to the attention of the waiter, the explanation I receive was that it is how the chicken is served. Now I am no dummy, but golden brown is a lot different from burnt, aside from the appearance of my chicken, the taste was very bland, anyone with flour, seasoning salt, oil, chicken, and a frying pan can prepare a more flavorful tasting fry chicken. The waffles was good but at almost $20.00 not great! Despite my displeasure, as a food traveler, I decided to give Roscoe's another chance and placed a to go order for a 3 piece wings and waffles, well the food was no different. The chicken is a 2 1/2 at best, the fried chicken in your local super markets deli is tastier! The waffles is 3, not bad, but not exceptional or great. Overall Roscoe's House of Chicken "N" Waffles is 2 out of 5!
