Thai Food and Celebrity Wattage: Chan Darae is one of those Hollywood staples that never get old. The food is wonderful, and the moody lighting perfect for relaxed evenings with friends or for celebrities trying to keep a low-profile. I love their Pad Thai; it's sweeter than other recipes. It almost tastes like the sauce is candied. Yum. Their chicken sattay is also wonderful, with a peanut sauce that is textured with small chunks of diced nuts. Double yum. Other dishes, like their spicy Ginger Chicken and the Asparagus with Shittake Mushrooms, are perfect for sharing, and their yellow curry sauce is also something to savor if you like curry.
It's not uncommon to run into TV and movie stars there. I've spotted several, from CCH Pounder ("The Shield") and Mo'Nique to Jason Priestley and Samuel L. Jackson. There's a whole wall of pictures depicting celebrities visits, in fact.
All in all, Chan Darae is one of my favorite places to go on first dates. Funny, though, how I've never had a second date with any of those people. Hmmmm, on second thought... :)
We love it!: My husband and I love to sit at the bar, have a glass of wine and eat the wonderful food. We always have a lovely time.
One of the best in LA: I've tried at least 15 different Thai restaurants in LA, and this one is my favorite.
