| About: | Gene Autry opened this museum in 1988 to showcase western history. The museum features several rotating exhibits as well as a permanent collection. Art and artifacts from the Old West are on display, from the West's prehistoric roots to the 20th century's Hollywood glamorization of the Wild West. Using film, radio and television clips, and a hands-on discovery center for children, the museum sheds a bright light on this part of the nation's heritage. |

User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsI love this place!: The Autry Museum of the American West is a great place to spend the day. The museum puts together some special exhibitions (the current one is Yosemite) that are fine, but I love the permanent collection. I learn something new everytime I visit this place. Also, the gift store and cafe are a-one (although I wished the cafe served beer). All in all, a wonderful place!
User Rating: 4 out of 5 starsautry museum: we go there at least once a month on free day. We are not members so we take advantage of free day AFTER school groups are gone. We aim to get there around 2pm. Awesome place to hang out and learn.
User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsLearned a lot about the West!: I was please to see the various cultures of the West represented in the museum collection. Native American, Mexican, Chinese, etc, all have a legacy in the West. I spent the whole afternoon there with my kids and was very pleased with the experience.
