We went to Dinah's last night for the chicken dinner. The dinner consisted of chicken, mashed potato, creamed spinach. The chicken was okay (a little overly deep fried), mashed potatoes were not real (watery looking, no flavor as they were instant), creamed spinach (had the lumps from the rue and someone got carried away with the nutmeg!).. Why do they put nutmeg in the creamed spinach I'll never know. It just ruins it.
Waitress was very friendly but never came back to see if we needed or could use anything else.
PLEASE someone tell these people about the spinach! and potatoes.
Generally, my family acknowledges that I make the best pancakes that they have ever had, but Dinah's left me in the dust. People like to rave about the Apple Pancake. I am not a baked apple type of guy. I prefer the Baked Banana Pancake. If you get this, the 20 min baking wait gives you just enough time to get down an egg and OJ. When the pancake hits your table, all eyes are on you because they all know what is about to happen. You get THE best pancake in Los Angeles. Make sure you share, as it is rather large (serves 4 very hungry people, to 6 fairly hungry people) and you do not want people to think you a glutton. But you are. And, this time it is okay.
I have seen the rest of my party eat other things for breakfast at the restaurant, but they never finish. Why waste the time and money. Go for the GOLD.
Service is always friendly and prompt. There may be a 15 minute wait, but with such a large seating area, you don't have to worry. I have yet to wait more than 5 minutes myself.
Enjoy!
Heavenly Apple Pancakes: This restaurant is world famous for there giant apple pancakes. They aren't really pancakes they are a dough swirled with cinnamon, butter, egg and apple slices baked to perfection and have a diameter of about 12 to 14 inches.
The only problem with the restaurant is the wait on the weekends. Be prepeared to wait at least a half hour to an hour.
