| About: | From the bizarre name of Genghis Cohen, you'd think this was an Asian kosher delicatessen. You'd be wrong. The menu is strictly Chinese (besides the coleslaw & pickles) and it's good. The crowd is a mix of those who come for the Szechuan pork, and younger music types who'll either perform or patronize the acoustic music room that's just off the entrance. Although it depend on who's playing, you can usually get into the music room with a nominal fee. Come for the food, but stay for the music. |

Cold Food, Poor Customer Service, and Rude and Belligerent Management
My husband and I ate at Genghis Cohen tonight and it had to be the worst customer service ever. Our main course was served cold 45 minutes after our appetizers. My husband ordered beer and the waitress never returned to ask him for a second. Our plates sat in front of us 40 minutes after we had clearly finished eating. We complained to management cordially and they called us free loaders and said they were busy and that is why their service was horrible and their food was cold. They actually admitted to poor service and cold food. I could not believe it. We waited thirty minutes for them to come and take our check. We were never offered dessert. I must say that if you want Asian Cusine, go to PF Chang. I was so hungry by the time our food came out, which came out ten minutes apart; I actually ate the cold food. What a night. I wish I could take our four hours back and go elsewhere. The manager actually walked away from us with out offering any apology for such poor service.
Go to Hollywood & Taste Yiddish Mongolian!: With no offence to L.A., Genghis Cohen has a Greenwich Village club feel-but without NYC's intense frenetic sensation. It probably has to do with somes acts booked there. Despite the somewhat tight quarters of the performance area, there's the sense that much of the audience has a close relationship with the artists giving it a "cozy," homey feel. Acoustic presentations tend to be most enjoyable there. The food is fine, but don't expect fast food speed!
