About:Yet another of L.A.'s converted art deco movie houses, this 1928 registered historic landmark has become one of the most popular stops in recent years for national pop music tours. Before its current incarnation, El Rey Theatre also served as a thriving Wall Street nightclub. With a capacity of only 900, the theater often sells out, so try to get tickets in advance. Credit cards are not accepted at the box office, so make sure to have cash on hand.

Suddenly, It's One of my Favorites: The El Rey has snuck up to become one of my favorite live venues. They have been booking really interesting acts. Stuff I have gone to this past year. !!!, Breakestra, M.I.A. Dizzee Rascal, Shivaree, Pedro The Lion, The Shout Out Louds. and a lot of KCRW-promoted acts.. Booze is expensive - $8 for a Jack Daniels. Parking is not: $7 Valet or $7 park behind Hollywood video across the street (yes it costs the same to valet or self-park) There is a modest little grill for emergency food. They are not fascist about cameras. The staff is always friendly to me. The soundsystem is realllly loud - earplugs work. If you are right in the middle, the sound is really good. If you're off to the side, it gets a little distorted. It's close enough to my apartment so it's not a hassle. The scene is very youthful, but often enthusiastic and almost friendly. (Shocking for LA) All in all .. thumbs up to the El Rey.

An Excellent Live Music Venue: This is an excellent venue and one of LA's Best. The sound is great and the music can be heard from any point in the theater. The main floor is open and it is best to get to your favorite show early if you want ot be close to the stage. It is all part of the Revision of the Hollywood district. If you have not spent a night out at the El Rey you are missing one of L.A.'s best venues for live music.

Awesome stage, sound, and bar!: The El Rey is just right for bands to play and it gives them a professional look when on stage. There are seats for those who want to sit, and wood-grain floors for those who are there to jump around and act a fool. Fog machines and lights add to the effect of an out of this world experience. All in all its a laidback atmosphere.
