About:Voted no. 1 in L.A. Albano's is a small, no-nonsense pizza place located on Melrose Ave. next to fashion boutiques, restaurants, and a tattoo parlor. Sit under the green awning at one of their three tables; two green, one red. Or step inside its tight quarters, like below deck on a boat. You'll see there's more kitchen than dining room. And, more kitchen means great pizza. Hollywood legends stop by for a slice. You should too, if you like your pizza thin and crispy, with just enough cheese and sauce for taste, but not too much to bloat you. - Robert Nomura

Folks, Albano's is no more. Closed about 2 months ago. Sadly, it had really gone down hill in the last few months - store closed at random times, prices kept going up ($4 for a slice?!), and the quality, while still good, wasn't up up to snuff. Good knowing you, Albano.

Replaced by another pizza joint, that I forget the name, but is actually pretty close to real NYC pizza.

A Taste of Park Slope!: We're from Brooklyn & I'm Italian, so my opinion may actually have some value (smile)! This pizza is EXCELLENT! It really does taste like real New York Pizza, but not the BEST New York Pizza. Actually, it tastes like some of the poorer quality stuff you get in Manhattan sometimes -- you know, the places that are NOT run by Italians (sorry)! The crust is bendable & good. The edges, tho, do not rise! Whether that's because they don't use enough yeast or it has to do with the water or whatever, the crust is flat; the best New York pizza has a crust you can actually eat on it's own, dip in tomato sauce . . . savor! The toppings are good -- but certainly not how you get them in New York. Compared with Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens (or even Staten Island) pizza, the best adjective is "skimpy." If you order "extra cheese," you get what is considered "normal cheese" in Brooklyn (with extra cheese, you actually need a knife & fork)! The price, however, is reasonable, and the size of the pie is great (most "large" pies in L.A. would be considered "personal pizzas" in the City). The service was FANTASTIC, unbeatable, great! You can't top the service or niceness here! I gave the ambiance a top rating; that's not because it's "elegant fancy," but because this place feels like a REAL Brooklyn pizzaria, and the tables out front add a super-special touch that you don't even find in most New York City pizzarias (it's the weather!). In New York, this would be "OK" pizza and I'd go to a lot of other places first; I'd say it would rank in the lower 40% of pizza places! But in LA, if you want real New York Pizza, great service, atmosphere, and a fair deal -- then consider Albano's. Oh, and the parking is cool! Very accessible area!
