About:YAMASHIRO is a "Mountain Palace", located high in the Hollywood Hills and surrounded by lush landscaped gardens overlooking the best view of Los Angeles. Built in 1911, the grounds are an exact replica of a palace located in the Yamashiro mountains near Kyoto, Japan. The pagoda, koi pond, polished teak and million-dollar views are intoxicating. The menu is Asian influenced with items like Wagyu Steak, Korean style Baby Back Ribs, Seared Ahi, and Chipotle-Citrus Lamb Chops. We have an extensive Sushi list with a variety of specialty Maki Rolls. Our Lounge is open late serving fresh Muddled Cocktails, with a full liquor, wine, sake, and beer lists. You can also enjoy a beverage or appetizer in our newly renovated Pagoda Bar, nestled in our exterior Garden with a view of the entire city. What a great experience! The food was delicious, the service was excellent and the view was AMAZING! We went there before a show at the Pantages and the staff was so accomodating and did everything that they could to make sure we got to Dirty Dancing on time. All around wonderful experience!

Hit & miss for me. Awesome view, very nice historic building, ok to good food/serive. Try a slower week night if your coming for dinner and things seem to be better. Weekends come for drinks and the view.

Yamashiro is a rarity in L.A., because it's a pre-1950's building that has actually been appreciated and preserved -- not torn down and rebuilt like the rest of the city. The unique, Japanese-style structure has quite a history (read about it at www.yamashirorestaurant.com, and take a very cool virtual tour); originally a private mansion, then an exclusive club for the Hollywood elite, and a military academy before becoming the beautiful restaurant it is today.

The Hollywood hilltop views are amazing, and (unlike most "view" restaurants) the food is great, too! Every time I've been there, I've had nothing less than excellent service.

Despite the Japanese name and architecture, the menu is currently Cal-Asian. I prefer this menu to the all-Japanese menu they had years ago. I like to start out with the crab cakes and tempura shrimp & vegetable appetizers, followed by the filet mignon & lobster. Wonderful!

For all of the above reasons, Yamashiro is my first choice for treating my out-of-town guests to a one-of-a-kind, memorable dining experience. So far, everyone I've taken there has loved it.
