They are usually great and I much prefer to visit them instead of Home Depot. You don't have to worry about forklifts racing through the isles or foul mouthed employees with no brain giving you an answer to a question that you didn't ask!

I must admit I have not gone there in a while but they have always offered free coffee and give senior citizens a discount every Tuesday. (When is the last time Home DeCrap did that?) The staff seems quite knowledgeable and ready to help. I've been going there since a kid and at times recognize some of the older employees.

On the down side I must say that some of their items are a bit expensive. Kitchen appliances being one of them. I also had problems with the staff on a couple of occasions.
One time an employee kept trying to ignore me when I needed assistance. He even offered to help someone who didn't even ask for help while he was hesitantly helping me. Oh well, he was just probably mad because I had long hair and... well, he had no hair.
On a different occasion they really raised hell when I wanted to return some paint I believed to be defective. I had to FIGHT with them for a couple of hours speaking to different people before they finally made good.

Nevertheless I still recommend you visit them. If you go there on a Tuesday you'll might see some old timers who have probably been going there for decades; they don't seem to do much shopping and like to walk around zipping coffee. This really shows it's a family store.

I have been going to All American since I was a kid in the 60s back when it was located by where the Downey Theatre is now. I now live about 13 miles from Downey and I have a Home Depot a couple of blocks away from my home. I will still make the drive to go to All American because I know they always have what I need and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly (and easy to find unlike HD). I like the layout of the store as well compared to the big warehouse atmosphere. It just feels like a real family type hardware store. I hope they are knocking the socks off HD who had the audacity to place a store right next to them to try and put them out of business. Totally unscrupulous of HD. Go get-em AHC.....

I loose my husband every Saturday morning to All American I come alone and we spend a avrage time of 2hours we always look out for their discount last time they had items for 99cents i got at leat 20 floor mats and they where the hit with my family they where surprise the pet lock and key coupons have brought family members from down town los angeles and they where impressed it is a shame that they went to home depot after but thwy came out very happy with there purchase and was in chock to actually have met the actual owner and a store manager and he was able to talk to him he said they advised him on his istallation and was able to make a wise decision on his kitchen installation and tile back splash on his sink he has come back to all american and i have taken then weekly coupon special book to my brother in-law and i am happy to say he has completed his project under the budget he expected he said he owes me and happy he was able to find tile specials cheaper than home depot and got the right information on application.....we love our All American Home Inprovement Center because re just renamed...hope they do not mine. Best coffee service specialy welcommed early in the morning.
