Schedule needs to be updated: I am one who has recently started to take public transportation. The Gardena Municipal bus line is one I needed to get back from the green line.
The Transit Information provided is ten years old. When I ask the bus drivers for the time of the last bus out from my stop, I get times ranging from 6:00pm to Midnight.
I once waited over an hour at night ( around 8:00pm )in an area where I did not want to be. I finally had beg ( thank God for cell phones ) for a ride from a friend of mine.
To the City of Gardena: Please Get your schedules straight !!
Got me where I needed to be... AND ON TIME!: Car needed repair the first time. Walked to the corner bus stop. Waited about 15 minutes. Bus stopped, doors opened and the bus driver smiled and told me what I needed to know without having a bad attitude. She handed me a schedule to help reduce my stress. The next trip back home went smoothly as did the following day's trip to go back and pick up my car!
Another time I needed a ride after turning in a car rental and needing to meet a dental appointment on Lomita Boulevard. I got dropped off at the bus stop. Met the bus in a 7 minute wait. 15 Minute busride down Western Avenue and transferred to another bus at Lomita Boulevard. Off at bus stop. Took me 10 minutes to get to the building and up the stairs to my appointment. No problems, good people riding the bus and the bus was kept in very clean condition- not like something out of Mad Max and the Thunderdome set.
I wouldn't hesitate to do it again as a viable alternative to rising gas prices.
Kudos to the bus drivers and getting me where I needed to be ON TIME!
The price is right too!
Thanks Gardena!
Worse Bus Company In The South Bay Area: The Gardena Bus Lines is quite easily the worse bus company in the Los Angeles area. I've been using this bus company for the past two years ever since I moved to the South Bay area. I don't know why I bother, and I am happily switching to the more reliable Torrance Bus Company.
The negatives: some buses turn up very late, some don't turn up at all, some drivers are surly and have bad attitude, some drivers spend their time chatting to the passengers and don't realize they have passed your bus stop. Some drivers even stop for passengers when there is no bus stop there, surely most bus companies don't allow that?
The buses are old stock and are frequently cramped and dirty.
The positives: small minority of the drivers are friendly. Keep a look out for them, especially the Hispanic ones.
On the whole, don't rely on this bus company to get you there on time, and use the Torrance Buses instead.
