Nice atmosphere and good service but the food is horrible! PF Changs is not even in the same category, much better. Neither is really Chinese food but at least PF Changs is tasty. I have been here 3 times and keep hoping it gets better but it never does. I agree with a previous reviewer, this is bad fake Chinese food. Go somewhere else.
Nouveau Chinese: First of all, this isn't traditional Chinese. A quick look at the ingredients used will give you a clue. The sesame crispy chicken has as an ingredient balsamic vinegar. Not a traditional Chinese flavoring. But it is very good as are the other dishes on the menu.
Some compare W's it to P.F. Chang's. I disagree there. Chang's is the typical popular yuppyish type of food that came out of the 80s and 90s. W's is more towards the traditional Chinese in appearance and flavor without the gimmicks of 'special' dipping sauces and such.
We went to W's the first week it opened and continue to go back regularly. This isn't your family restaurant by any means. The cliental is definitely more upscale successful people. And the lack of Asian customers is very noticeable. Usually my wife and I are the only Asians in the place other than the cooks.
The food is actually very good. Any one who knows Chinese food will tell you it is not traditional Chinese from any region. That doesn't make it bad, just different. The Chinese influence is there, but the flavors are unique. The flavor is close to Chinese cuisine but subtly different.
My wife spoke to one of the cooks and he said the food is Chinese in origin, but that the ingredients were not always traditional. The execution of cooking was traditional, as you can see through the circular window, but that was about all that was 100% authentic.
The prices are a bit high for the portions, but I have never felt that I didn’t get value for the meal. There are less expensive Chinese restaurants around, but they are serving a different cliental.
We have tried most of the items on the menu and haven’t been disappointed with any of them. Our favorites are the Crunchy Lettuce Cups (chicken), Red Hot Beef, Sesame Crispy Chicken (with the balsamic), and the Fiery Fish with the pickled vegetables (the pickled vegetables are a taste from home for my wife).
This isn't a true Chinese restaurant and many may criticize it as such. But then again neither is Chinois and you seldom hear any complaints of that fine restaurant. Go in with an open mind and let the food win you over. Chinese Bistro is very apt name for the type of food served.
Ok place if you like fake Chinese food: It's faux chinese food for ignorant Americans
