Considered the "best Italian source on the Westside, this place has long been a favorite of all Angelenos. Its homemade fresh pasta might be a good enough reason to travel to Santa Monica, but there are innumerable reasons to go to the deli itself. Featuring terrific cold cuts, extra large Italian subs, sensational cheeses, imported cooking oils and melt-in-your-mouth olives, this is a place any Italian connoisseur will appreciate. Don't miss the Greek and Middle Eastern specialties as well.

visited the Bay Cities Italian Deli & Bakery as it received rave reviews... didn't get a chance to taste their offerings though. my bf accidently dropped a bottle of seasoning after nearly being sideswiped by an employee and the cart he was wheeling around. at the register, we were informed we would be charged for two. we didn't feel we were at fault for the damage of the one we dropped to which they responded their cameras would prove otherwise. we waited while they reviewed the tape... shortly thereafter, the groceries we had been waiting to purchase were removed from the register and we were asked to leave and to never return. the manager stated the owner saw no one else in the tape to have provoked the incident as claimed by my bf. if they had indeed reviewed the tape, they would clearly see that yes, what we claimed was true. it was absurd they insisted otherwise and simply shunned us away. worthwhile food you say? well, please take note of the service - nonexistent.
This does seem to have a certain bias. This place sucked I moved here from Montebello and wanted a good deli joint and found this terrible place. Ill stick to Pimentos on Beverly Blvd when I go see my folks.
I just finished one of the worst sandwiches I have ever had... which came as a surprise, as this joint was highly recommended by co-workers.
To start off, you have to wait an ungodly amount of time with the number system... like at the post office! The staff is VERY unfriendly and they have a smugness about them that I figured must be because of their food. The guy that made my sandwich completely screwed it up, as I asked for no pickles or olives... and I got an abundance of both. Never asked me if I wanted condiments, he just wrapped it up dry.
To top it off, the bread was so tough it's impossible to eat the sandwich without squeezing it's contents out the other side.
What I can say is that they look to have a pretty impressive assortment of cheeses and wines... but that's not what I came for.
I can't believe the hype around this place. I get a far better sandwich at the donut place on the corner... and they're friendly.
I will NEVER eat here again. Don't believe the hype.
