They have changed from the casual Toppers that I loved to some high-tech, all white, we are so so cool and have an attitude kind of place. The view is stil great so go for drinks and just expect high priced ok food if you stay for dinner.
Great view, ambiance, decor, nice staff, excellent service, fast valet, BUT food is not as good. Albacore appetizer was bland. Shrimp cocktail was big but boring. I had better steaks at Norms. Wanna have a nice bone in rib eye, go to Houston's, Banderas, or Boa. Huntley's food sucks but bathroom has nice view when you are taking a deuce. Relatively expensive for sorry food.
What a beautiful place, I gasped when I stepped off the elevator and into this heavenly restaurant! There was the beautiful view of the Santa Monica Bay, beautiful decor and beutiful people hanging out and about the bar. I stood in the middle of the room while waiting all of three minutes for my table and took a really good look around at everything and everybody. My jaded LA self was melted away because I was truly impressed by the stylish-ness of it all. I've been to this place before when it was Topper's and at a time when they served everyday Mexican food. I love Mexican food and I love the view and I also thought this place could be so much more. It has become that so-much-more I was looking for.
We arrived almost at sunset and were seated in the dining room at a corner table near the window, believed to be the best seat in the house. I started with a drink, Feu en Rose, yummy, and a slice each of black olive and rosemary bread, yummy yum. I ordered the chacuterie and cheese plates and a side of asparagus. The chacuterie plate had these great tasting, uber thinly sliced meats (just the way I like them) and a gourmet selection of condiments that were usual but with unusual twists, like the red peppers marinated in wine and instead of tiny little capers there were these huge caper berries that were packed with huge caper flavor. The cheese plate offered hard and soft cheeses that were mild and excellent. With the chacuterie and cheese plates I had all these little combos of tastes that I could put together that made each bite delectible and different. The aspargus arrived fresh and colorful as asparagus should be. My dinner was excellent.
My hubby ordered the culotte steak and a side of mac and cheese. Hubby is a serious steak man and a conoisseur of mac and cheese. He loved the cut of his steak and how simply it was cooked. He also thought the sharp cheese in the mac and cheese made it delicious. He said his dinner was excellent too.
The menu seemed well-planned and thought out and offered intereting ingredients and a selection of seafood. Unfortunately I'm extremely allergic to seafood and my husband tends to not order it when he's with me. I did notice however, that there were interesting choices to be had with seafood. Our waiter was attentive, knowledgeable, helpful, everything you want a waiter to be. Our waiter suggested the Feu en Rose drink. Sometimes I order a Mojito. Sometimes they're good and sometimes not. Besides that, Mojitos feel so thirty minutes ago anyway and martinis always look so much better than they taste. The Feu en Rose came in a martini glass and it tasted good. I think it was the lychee liqueur that gave it a little something extra. I was pleased.
I would come back to this restaurant. I would reccomend this restaurant. I would reccomend going to the ladies bathroom while you're there and check out the view from the handicap stall. Talk about a view from the loo, stunning!
