I had made a reservation for 8pm,for a romantic birthday dinner for my wife.We were seated at 9pm after threatening to walk out and watching at least a dozen people seated ahead of us.Our table was old tin and slanted. My meal was a joke,a 45 dollar steak with overdone string french fries nothing else.I will be spending my 300 dollars [tip, meals and cheapest zin on the menu,54 dollars]at one of the other romantic eateries that serve beautiful food in a lovely setting in the future.Michaels,NEVER AGAIN.
Outstanding: Michael's combines all the requisite ingredients for an excellent dinner: food, wine and ambiance. Very enjoyable.
What to expect here.: I have been to Michael's a number of times at the behest of others. The service is always wonderful as is the atmosphere. That being said I have never enjoyed a meal there. Michael's is a place where the presentation of the food is at least as important as the taste; something I find a waste of time and money. Some of my more snooty companions marveled at the visual display presented to them in their meal. Perhaps it is my pedestrian ways or my philistine tastes but I have struggled to find something to eat each and every time. Not ever a regular garden salad appears on the menu (they do have a field greens salad, which I can't stand). My cousins can discuss for hours the minor variations in various bordeaux, that I honestly can't taste the difference. They love the place, I find it a waste of time. If you enjoy pretension, you should enjoy Michael's
