Just got back from a weekend stay on Catalina Island. Went to Buffalo Nickel Restaurant because it advertises "Where the Locals Eat". The restaurant is located way off the "beaten path) on the left side of the island where the helicopter port is located. You have to wait for a "free shuttle" to pick you up near the Catalina Express port. The shuttle passed us 4 times, always full even though we had called ahead. We waited one hour to get picked up. That should have been our warning but you know how it is... We finally got there and all the table were taken on the patio so we sat inside. There was no hostess, just seat yourself. It took over 1 hour from the time we ordered to the time we were served. It was horrible! The food was very good but the long wait takes all the enjoyment away. We will never go back. I think they had only 2 waiters and one chef. Too bad! If they could just improve on the service, they would be the best restaurant on the island because the food is really good and the price is very reasonable.
Enjoy the "High Life": Cockdie says...this place is fantastic! The food was very good. Was there during the winter, so sitting outside was not an option...but the outdoor area looked great! Plus, it's the only place in the island that serves Miller High Life!!! Why everyplace there sells MGD, and not High Life, is mind boggling. Obviously West Coasters don't know their beer. Anyway...the Buffalo Nickel gets and A+ in my book.
