Sally's Waffle Shop

Sally's waffle house has been a favorite breakfast stop on Catalina Island for my wife and me for many years. She loves their bacon waffle and I am a fan of their crab omelet. We moved out of the Southern California area about eight years ago and then recently took a Carnival Cruise ship that had a stop at Catalina Island. We were so excited about eating here again that we decided not to eat aboard ship so we could once more enjoy our favorite meal aboard the island. We even convinced a couple traveling with us to do the same. Upon our arrival to Sally's, we sat at a booth and waited for our traveling companions to arrive. The waitress passed our booth at least twice, never acknowledeged us and never offered us coffee. When we finally did order, my wife got the wrong order and my omlete was full of egg shell. One of our traveling companions also received a wrong order. After talking up this restaurant, we were embarrassed by this experience. I don't know what has happened here but if this is the norm, this once good restaurant could become a thing of the past. It's too bad.

We had been to Sally's before but had forgotten why we weren't impressed. Once we began eating our breakfast, we remembered. I ordered a waffle and I might as well have taken a piece of buttered toast and poured maple syrup over it - in fact that would have been preferable. It was like cardboard. And this is a "waffle shop." My husband ordered a mushroom, spinach and swiss cheese omlete. It could have been good except the cheese was like a velveta processed stuff - spoiled it really. The hash browns were soggy. The only good thing about the breakfast was the coffee and the service. It was also a little expensive which would not have bothered us if the food had been good. We will not return.
