Been eating at Mr. Nings for many years. Love the food and the hospitality. Always felt at home even though only visit once or twice a year. Sorry to hear restaurant is for sale. Will miss Jan giving a big welcome. Always felt special.
This is the best restaurant overall on Catalina Island. You can get great food elsewhere, but the combination of tasty Chinese food with attentive and outstanding service at very reasonable prices makes this the best deal. The lunch menu is very affordable, with daily specials like crispy chicken with a wonderful garlic soy sauce, or the green beans sauted with bacon bits. Jan and Leonard, the wife and husband team of manager and cook, know hospitality. The restaurant closes for a few weeks every winter, and the local go through withdrawal! Also, with dive bars like JL's Lockerroom across the street and the Marlin Club a block over, Ning's is a great place to drink beer, wine or sake. It is a place where all of the family can dine, or a couple can have a really good evening. The owner (not Ning) has the place on the block as I post this late August 2008. If I had the dough, I'd buy it. Truly the most popular restaurant in town.
Fantastic restaurant!! I came upon this little gem upon my first visit to Catalina this month. It's right on Summer Ave and you cannot miss its red canopy and exterior. The service is so friendly and the restaurant is so cute. The owner herself greets you at the door and checks up on you periodically to make sure that everything to your liking. Their prices are very good as well. A really good place to hang you hat for a little bit and refuel after walking around the scenic little island. If you are uber hungry and don't plan to spend a lot of money while in Catalina, I highly recommend visiting Mr. Ning's. I don't know who Mr. Ning is, but he's doing a great job.
