I have attended longview and parkridge and it is a great school, I started in I believe the 7th or 8th grade getting college credits from coastline community college, and the teachers there are really helping me to not only get my high school diploma but have an A.A degree, which most businesses want now-a-days. And I should have that by summer of 2010 in general business. So I have to say for people who said they didn't learn anything maybe you just weren't paying attention or frankly didn't care. Because I have been at that school all my life and though of course there are subjects that we all don't like in school, but I still listened and enjoyed the class because the teachers especially Joan Horton, made it fun and different for us, not boring and dull. So even if Parkridge is not considered to be an accredited school I don't care because I have learned allot there and there are many examples of ones who have graduated from there that had a great time and a great job. So don't hate appreciate.
Check out their website at www.parkridgek12.com and you will see that it is accredited.
As of today I was informed that the school is accredited in some form. I am not sure that my GPA or diploma will be accepted by a college though. They are accredited by Northwestern association of accreditated schools. Whether this is legitimate or not I can't be sure, I say this because there is such a thing as limited accreditation. I was also never informed when I attended Parkridge that it was not accredited. I have no idea when they became accredited either.Whenever students or parents asked about the subject they were always shut down by the principal Joan Horton. I guess that would be a sore subject if Joan was well aware that they were withholding information from there "customers". The school is run like a business, and they didn't want to lose any income by letting the parents know they were better off sending their children to public school. I can't judge the school as it is now because Longview no longer exist (thank god!). I attended parkridge before they were accredited, and I was learning little to nothing during my four years of high school, so accredited or not it isn't a school I recommend to others. The only really I am a competent adult now is because I went to a public elementary and jr. high. I feel very sorry for the students who had to attend Longview from K-12.
Accreditation: When I attended Parkridge, once know as Southwestern Longview, it was not disclosed to my mother when she enrolled me that they were not accredited. You can find out their status, as it is public record, so that parents can make an informed decision by visiting the website for WASC Western Association of Schools and Colleges. In my opinion, it would be good to check to see if they have finally received their accreditation before handing over hard earned money, as I did. And especially if pursuing work as an educator, as diplomas from this school are not recognized by employers like LAUSD. Parkridge is one of the many school named on the LAUSD websites as not meeting equivalency standards due to theirs lack of accreditation and this is a fact anyone can find on their own on the LAUSD website under the No Child Left Behind Act, High School Diploma Information. I just think it is only fair, and I would hope that they now disclosed this to their paying patrons, as I, in my opinion, paid for nothing. I had to pay to take the GED in order to be eligible for employment through LAUSD after paying to attend this school. This was my experience with this school and hope that this will help anyone from experiencing this kind of frustration. It is not law that a school has to be accredited, so they are well within their rights as a private school; it would be a kind gesture in my opinion to let the consumer know what they are purchasing, as this was not done for me. Thanks.
