User Rating: 2 out of 5 starsNo thanks - deli needs a serious overhaul: Their service deli used to be really good, and convenient (I work about 1/2 a mile from the store). However, over the last year, with the change over in staff (who knows what other managerial changes), they've really taken a dive. You'd think that the staff there don't care and have never eaten a sandwich themselves! In my last few visits to the store (which have been increasingly less frequent), I've had my my order messed up 50% of the time. They've also been short on their variety of breads on too many occasions. The staff seems disinterested at best. I used to frequent Von's on a daily basis to order lunch from the deli, racking up well over 100 sandwiches on my Von's card. Now, I have to honestly say that I'd rather drive an extra several miles and battle traffic and additional work down-time at the busy Lake and Del Mar "food arena" than wait in line for an awful sandwich made with very little attention from Von's. I wish this wasn't the case. Do you have a different experience? Please share. Maybe I've been extremely unlucky, recently.

I was there last weekend. There were two teenagers selling candy. I was outside waiting for my taxi. The Vons security guard came out dodging the boys almost physically yelling and screaming at the boys. They were good kids not trying to make no trouble. While the guard needed to develop some tact. The guard chased them up to starbucks. Five minutes later the boys return demanding to speak to management. Apparently the guard physically hit one of the boys who tried to take a picture at the guard because he was angered at the boys. The guard physically struck the boy. Management really didnt care to listen to the boys and to tell you the truth didnt believe them at all and went back into the store. They never offered to even take a report. I told the boys to call the pasadena police and have this incident documented. The police arrived shortly and so did my taxi. signed annoymous!
I'm not doubting the stories above, nor do I work for Vons, or have any interest in the store, but I will tell you, the Vons in Huntington Beach at Edinger and Springdale has got to be the best grocery store I've been in. I have lunch in the deli almost every day- sandwich, soup, or salad. The sandwiches there are a case where they actually look BETTER than the pictures. I'm sure you've seen movies and commercials where they show the sorry looking excuse of a sandwich and the customer looks at the picture. THe people there are really nice, even through the stress at lunchtime when they get completely overwhelmed by the wave of high-schoolers (across the street) that invade the place at lunchtime like locust. I don't suggest you drive down there from Pasadena for lunch, but if you do, make sure you don't get there between 12:25 and 12:50 to avoid the big rush!
