| About: | Descanso Gardens are a wonderful place to spend a few hours or the entire day. Located only 20 minutes from downtown Los Angeles, the foliage spans 160 acres. Wander through the camellia forest and stop for a bite to eat at the Japanese Tea House. The rose gardens are also beautiful, and the Boddy House Gallery features a variety of artists every month. You will not believe a place this lush exists so close to the city. |

One of my favorite places to go in Los Angeles. My kids love it oo; the little train and children's maze are great.
Beautiful Descanso!: Any time of the year, the Gardens are a joy. The plantings, the walks through the oaks, the Boddy House artwork. The tram tour is the perfect place to start your visit, and you will want to return again and again.
The Most Beautiful Gardens in Los Angeles: The word "descanso" in Spanish means "rest," and this is without a doubt one of the rare restful sites to visit in Los Angeles. The 160 acres of the gardens includes a 20-acre oak forest with some 35,000 camellia plants (October-May). Lilacs are in bloom in March and April. There is a large rose garden, a Japanese tea room, numerous ponds and streams, and the house of the original owner of the property featuring floral and landscape art for sale, as well as pottery. For kids, there is a little narrow-gauge railroad that runs on weekends only. So, before you waste any time in Hollywood or the Universal Studio Tour, this is the place to come!
