I went there on a regular gorgeous L.A. day; warm sun, slight breeze. We sat outside on their patio. Very quick service, as soon as we sat down (it was about 11 a.m.) we were given bread and a kind of pureed salsa dip - perfect bite to it. My friend, who regularly goes there for lunch, recommended the Mambo's Chicken. Our food came in less than 10 minutes (probably ready for the lunch rush); beans, rice, and sweet fried plantains included. The chicken was flavorful, not moist, but since our meal came with black beans I drenched my chicken with it. It wasn't a bad idea, as the garlic/onion-flavored chicken, was only tastier. I also got their Cafe con Leche that came in a large tumbler and perfectly strong. I wanted to try their coconut flan, that I saw listed on the menu, but I was satisfyingly full. Definitely going back, will definitely recommend to others.
If you havenât already been, this place is a âmust goâ. The food is excellent as is the service and it wonât break your wallet. Most of the staff is Cuban and are very willing to talk about their heritage. I go there very, very (did I mention very) often and the food is always good. You can order anything off the menu and it will be good. Just enough spices. Donât sleep on the Mojitos, they will sneak up on you. I find them to be a little too sweet, nothing a little Pellegrino couldnât fix, but that wonât stop the kick of alcohol. They are located next to a mechanic shop (weird, I know) but thatâs because it used to be a gas station. Thereâs usually a vintage car parked in front of the place. Speaking of parking, thereâs not much of it but you can park nearby. Itâs not a large restaurant, kind of a diner effect, where you can sit at a table or the counter to eat. The atmosphere is pleasant. The decor is black and red. Thereâs a bunch of black and white large print photos of Cuban personalities on the walls. Donât forget to order your Cafe con Leche after your meal along with your Mambo Cafe T-Shirt!! You will enjoy the expirence.
First timer and decided to eat their impromptu. The food was amazing!!!! I had the Mambos Chicken, cafe con leche and it was just perfect. The service was good, although i am the one that doesn't like the waiter/waitress at my table every 2 seconds and liked that i got to eat my food and carry a conversation without a forgotten thought. I highly recommend this place. Thanks Mambos for the best lunch i have had in a long while.
