We went here on a Saturday night about 6:30.
We stood at the front for 10 minutes before anyone would even acknowledge us. They seemed too busy preparing call-in orders that to seat
us. Finally we were seated, our order was taken, and we waited for another 45 minutes for our order. I figured they had to go out and get another pig or something.
Then the waitress informs us that they had run out of pork ribs. I really wanted pork ribs. We ended up subbing tri tip and beef ribs. When we finally got our food the beef ribs were big bones, burnt, with hardly any meat on them, and tough as shoe leather. The tri tip was so-so.
The beans were very sweet/ sticky, but tasted ok. Our O'Brian potatoes took another 10 minutes before they arrived, but were ok. We dumped BBQ sauce on them, and made a meal out of it. It's sad when the sides taste better than the main items. Noticed several families get up and walk out, epecially when they heard all the beef and pork ribs were sold out by 7:00. That is very poor planning on the part of management.
Saturday night Prime time dinner hour, and no ribs at a BBQ joint? Come on! They need to get more help in the kitchen. I only saw one guy in there. The waitresses seem to be trained at "Denny's Grand Slam" school with their indifferent and S-L-O-W attitude.
Seems to me that the phone orders take priority over the customers that drive a long way and show up, and be ignored for the most part.
Save yourself a waste of time, and head east to Pomona or Chino for some Joey's BBQ- it knocks the socks off of Canyon City BBQ, the service is much better, as is the food.
All-in- all a big dissapointment at Canyon City BBQ. Definitely won't be back for this one.
They have wierd hours also, closed on Tuesday or Wed, and closed early Sunday. Tried to get in here 3 times before, and they were closed.
try the gravy fries! the loaded spuds are so good and the st. louis ribs actually filled me up. normally other places have small ribs that never make me feel like it was worth the price i paid for. canyon city was the exception. great food, service, and prices...what more is there to say?
I was decorating floats and got hungry. I had seen this place a year before but thought it was expensive. I went in and found a piece of heaven. The rib tips were piled high and I took a lot home. The tips were juicy and tender. It made 3 meals for me as I am a diabetic. They also let me substitute cole slaw for the mountain of fries. I took my daughter and her 5 year old the next time and we had a ball. Remember to call and see if it is open. Can we find an excuse to go to Azusa before November? Bring your appetite!
