Went to see a movie and am familiar with Hop Woo in West LA which is decent so decided to give this same named restaurant a try. Like some of the other reviewers I will NOT frequent this restaurant again. Jokingly we were saying let's eat at the Soul Food place, Rick's, the Italian place even Johnny Rockets but unfortunately settled on this joint. Food was pretty terrible being not very well prepared and overly salty. Service was terrible even though we were only 1 of about 12 or so tables. The popcorn at the Edwards Theatre was like a gourment meal compared to the food at Hop Woo.
i agree with the other people. they have absolutely TERRIBLE service. my friend & i went in for dinner. one of the dishes we ordered the steamed rock cod. we didn't ask for the market price & they charged us over $15 per pound!!! my mom called back for me a couple of days later since her chinese is better than mine. they said market price was $13.99. so when my mom asked why they charged me over $15, the woman became very rude to her. she basically said that she's sure they charged a fair price & asked for a receipt for proof. unfortunately we didn't keep the recipt, but the fact is they overcharged us & were rude, especially rude to my mom. for that, i will never forgive them and will never go there again.
Worst experience EVER !!!... if u want to have bad food, and bad service then go to this restaurant. First of all, if u dont look 40 years of age, do not enter. They will treat you like a child with rude gestures, and poor service.
Second, the manager WILL YELL at you if u ask for more salad. They act like you are stealing if u ask for seconds.
Third, they will take their sweet time to act upon your request. Meaning, they take forever to bring you your request. For example, water, napkin, fork, food, tea, and etc.
Fourth, their food is not good. Actually, its HORRIBLE !!! Some were SALTY, and some were BLAND.
Finally, they will reach over you and grab the tip from your table like as if they earned it. They didnt even say thank you, and didnt even acknowledged that we were even there. The whole experience was a nightmare . I suggest going to Pho 79 that is down the street. If you are desperate, go to Panda Express which is across the street. Good Luck
