Great food, remote location: The oddity of Greek-Mexican fusion menus aside, the cowboy-bar feel of the Greek Sombrero's interior spins your already skeptical perception of the restaurant into a wholly unpredicted realm. Then again, it's located in Jamul next door to a horse-feed supplier, so perhaps the ambiance is more of a fit than expected. That still leaves the question of whether Mediterranean and Latin flavors complement each other. Venture in on a Friday night, and while the sounds of live classic rock roll across the room, you can hop your Wrangler jeans into a seat, open the menu and discover that they don't actually mix the two cuisines.
Mexican and Greek halves grace the menu, and while nachos and dolmades come out on separate plates, no one's going to stop you from practicing a little culinary invention of your own and dipping your grape leaf rolls in guacamole. If you just want a dish as it's supposed to be served, don't worry; there's plenty of souvlaki, enchiladas, gyros and carnitas listed to keep you happy for many return visits.
